Date
Friday 12th December
Time
12:00 to 13:00

Discover the remarkable story of John Templeton (1766–1825), the Belfast-born botanist and self-taught naturalist in our upcoming talk on 12th December with Curator of Botany, Rhonda Riley.

His ground-breaking fieldwork laid the foundations for documenting Ireland’s flora. Guided by a curiosity for the natural world, Templeton played a vital role in shaping early scientific culture in Northern Ireland - a legacy that continues to influence how we understand biodiversity today.

The Ulster Museum holds significant archival material relating to Templeton’s work, a selection of which is on display in the Ulster Museum from 28th November 2025, marking the bicentenary of Templeton’s death.

This is a free event taking place in the Ulster Museum Lecture Theatre. No booking needed.
