The Viking World and Us

Education - UM - Viking World (648 x 656)

The image of the Viking as a comic book character or film superhero is very familiar to us, but who really were the Vikings and what real evidence do we have for these fascinating people?

Through a series of interactive engagements, your class will explore the key questions of where the Vikings came from, who they were and what impact they had in Ireland. Pupils will have the opportunity to try on replica clothing and jewellery and experiment with armour and weapons to find out why the technology works. They will work in teams investigating objects and materials traded by the Vikings and find out what connects them to Ireland and the wider world, then present their ideas to the rest of the group. You can also visit the Saints and Scholars gallery at the Ulster Museum where you will see real Viking and Irish artefacts found in Ireland.
